Electric Boat announces $217M military contract

Electric Boat has been awarded an almost $217 million contract by the U.S. military for the purchase of materials to build submarines, the company announced this week.

Groton-based Electric Boat, a submarine manufacturer subsidiary of General Dynamics, was awarded the $216.5 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to procure long lead time material needed to build Virginia-class submarines SSN 814 and SSN 815 for the Navy.

General Dynamics Electric Boat is the prime contractor and lead design yard for the Virginia class, the company said, and constructs the ships in collaboration with Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia.
