Eastern Connecticut State University on Thursday will dedicate a 400 kilowatt fuel cell on its Science Building in Willimantic.
UTC Power of South Windsor sold ECSU the fuel cell and will provide a 10-year energy services agreement on the equipment. The PureCell system includes a combined heat and power facility that will capture the waste heat generated in the electrochemical process and repurpose it for heating and cooling.
The Connecticut Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority provided an unspecific amount of funding for the fuel cell, which typically costs around $2.5 million.
The fuel cell is expected to prevent the release of more than 1,356 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The dedication will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at the ECSU Science Building in Willimantic.
