EB gets $15.8M contract for sub repairs

Electric Boat received a $15.8 million Navy contract to repair damage to the USS Hartford sustained when the attack submarine collided in March with another Navy ship in the Persian Gulf, Marinelog.com reports.

The Hartford collided March 20 with the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans in the Strait of Hormuz, linking the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, Marinelog said today on its Web site. Fifteen sailors aboard the sub were slightly injured in the collision that occurred in darkness.

The contract covers repairs to the Los Angeles-class sub’s hull patch, its sail, and the port retractable bow plane.

The work will be divided between EB’s boatyards Groton and Quonset Point, R.I., Groton, and is expected to be completed by October.
