EB chief says CT jobs should remain stable

The president of Groton submarine builder Electric Boat says he expects employment at its Connecticut and Rhode Island sites to remain stable in 2011 without major job cuts, The Associated Press reports.

John Casey, president of the Groton subsidiary of General Dynamics Corp., made his comments Tuesday while presenting the business outlook for the 10,900-employee company. There are about 2,200 are in Rhode Island. The rest are in Groton.

Casey says EB will likely hire more engineers, but conduct less maintenance work because the U.S. Navy is doing more of that work at its own shipyards.

Electric Boat is buying a research and development site from drug manufacturer Pfizer for a major expansion in southeastern Connecticut.
