Eastern CT town gets $2.5M sewer aid

The town of Thompson has gotten $2.5 million in federal funds toward replacing parts of the rural eastern Connecticut community’s aging sewage system, authorities say.

First Selectman Lawrence K. Groh Jr. said a $1.9 million loan and a $632,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will pay for a planned sewer extension to relieve an outdated, onsite waste system serving 35 homes, three businesses and industrial property, and  the Marianapolis Preparatory School.

“These funds and the low interest loan are going to help this project move forward,” Groh said in a statement Wednesday.

He also credited Connecticut Congressman Joe Courtney with assisting the town in its pursuit of federal funds for the sewer project.
