East Hartford officials sign off on plans for separate 20-unit, 35-unit apartment developments

East Hartford officials, this week, signed off on plans for a 35-unit apartment building near Rentschler Field and a complex of two, 10-unit multifamily buildings near the Glastonbury line.

Economic Development Director Eileen Buckheit said the town is glad to see the development interest.

“They were vacant parcels of undeveloped grass and we are very happy to have new, modern apartments on those two parcels along our main roads,” Buckheit said.

The town’s Planning and Zoning Commission, on Wednesday, signed off on a site plan for a three-story, mixed-use building on a 1-acre site at 351 Silver Lane that formerly hosted a single-family house. The planned building will include 35 apartments and two retail spaces.

“The development will provide an opportunity for a mixed-use, multi-family residential housing community with ground-floor shops and restaurants,” reads a portion of the application by Nhan Nguyen, who bought the property for $180,000 in May 2023.

The commission also approved a site plan seeking to add two, 10-unit apartment buildings to undeveloped lots at 81 and 87 Main St., near the Glastonbury line.

Applicant Sergei Gerasimov, a South Glastonbury businessman, previously estimated construction costs of up to $3 million on the roughly 1-acre development site.

Gerasimov bought the two vacant Main Street lots for $50,000 in 2020. The Planning and Zoning Commission turned down a 24-unit proposal last year, citing parking concerns. The new plans reduced two units from each building, opening additional parking.
