East Hartford has hired a 2020 Georgetown University graduate as its new town planner.
Carlene Shaw started in the unionized position with a $83,689 annual salary this week. She had most recently spent a year as a planner for the City of Cambridge, Maryland.
Shaw graduated from Georgetown University with a master’s degree in urban and regional planning in 2020. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in geography and environmental studies from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
Attempts to reach Shaw were not immediately successful.
Shaw has an extensive history as a volunteer, having spent three years helping a New Paltz charity gather formula, food and other support for new mothers; a year with a Kingston, New York soup kitchen; and helped with home renovations and church building during three mission trips to the Dominican Republic.
East Hartford’s last town planner, Jeff Cormier, left the position last May.Â
