Machining specialists Horst Engineering and Manufacturing Co. in East Hartford today announced a relocation and expansion of its Mexican operations, and plans to step up hiring in Connecticut.
Horst Engineering de Mexico will open an 18,326-square-foot facility in an industrial park in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, about five hours south of the U.S. border. It replaces a smaller facility in Nogales where Horst manufactures precision-machined aerospace and medical components.
Horst de Mexico will employ about 50 individuals in Guaymas. About half of the employees from the Nogales operation will move to the Guaymas facility.
Horst CEO Scott Livingston the new facility enhances its international presence, which is increasingly important to customers, and will attract new business for the East Hartford operation.
The company did not state a target or timetable for hiring additional Connecticut workers.Â
