Two months after Eileen Buckheit stepped down from her longtime position as East Hartford’s director of community development, her former deputy is assuming the role.
Steve Hnatuck, who stepped into the top spot on an interim basis following Buckheit’s departure , has been appointed permanent director as of July 1.
Hnatuk will oversee the town’s economic development, planning, building, zoning, property maintenance and grants divisions.
As deputy development director, Hnatuk played key roles in updates to the town’s 10-year development plan, planning for the redevelopment of the Founders Plaza office park and more.
Before signing up with the town, Hnatuk worked for Tyche Planning & Policy Group, leading town planning efforts for several Connecticut municipalities on a contract basis.
Hnatuck holds bachelor’s degrees in natural resources and applied economics from the University of Connecticut, as well as a master’s degree in geography from Central Connecticut State University.
The position carried a salary range of $122,000 to $165,000.
