East Hampton officials may remove town official

East Hampton town councilors have scheduled a special meeting Wednesday morning to discuss the possible removal of a “management-level” town official, but won’t say whether it’s connected to the police chief controversy, The Associated Press reports.

The meeting was set for 11 a.m. at Town Hall. The agenda says the meeting concerns “the employment and possible separation of a management-level town employee.” Councilors aren’t naming the official.

The council has come under fire from many residents since it eliminated the police chief’s job in June at Town Manager Jeffrey O’Keefe’s request in what was called a cost-saving measure.

Former Police Chief Matthew Reimondo claims the move was retaliation for his coming forward with sexual harassment complaints against O’Keefe by three female town workers.
