East Granby’s Almost Famous Brewing to close

Almost Famous Brewing Co. in East Granby will close its doors Dec. 28, the brewery’s owners announced on social media.

Owners Chip Glanovsky and Jim Wilfinger said the decision came after “lengthy deliberation and reflection” but did not cite specific reasons for the closure.

The brewery will continue normal operations through the end of the year, including food trucks, live music and other scheduled events. The business will honor existing private event reservations through its final day.

Almost Famous is located at 17 Kripes Road, in an industrial park near Bradley International Airport, which houses a Two Roads Brewing Co. taproom and a Samuel Adams brewhouse.

The closure comes amid a broader slowdown in Connecticut’s craft brewery industry. According to the national Brewers Association, the number of craft breweries in Connecticut rose from 16 in 2011 to a peak of 130 in 2022. In 2024, the state had 122 breweries.

Part of the reason for the decline is that craft beer is relatively expensive compared to its mass-produced counterparts.

The owners said they are exploring different ideas and options for the brewery’s future, but could not guarantee any outcomes.

“We want to thank each one of you for making our journey exciting and rewarding,” the owners wrote in the announcement. “Our dedicated, supportive and amazing staff look forward to being in your company and serving you throughout our final weeks.”

Almost Famous is the successor to Blind Faith Brewing Co., which opened in 2018. In 2022, the owners changed the name after discovering that another brewery had already copyrighted the name “Blind Faith.”

“Almost Famous” is a reference to the 2000 comedy directed by Cameron Crowe.
