E. Hfd.’s Cabrera Services cleans up on contracts

Cabrera Services says the East Hartford engineering services and environmental remediator secured five contracts to bolster its 2013 workload.

The contract sums weren’t disclosed Friday.

Cabrera was awarded two five-year operation and management contracts, one at the Vineland Chemical Co. and the second at Lipari Landfill Superfund sites in southern New Jersey.

Both sites’ groundwater contaminated with arsenic and solvents, Cabrera will run round-the-clock the groundwater recovery systems and wastewater treatment plants.

In New York City, Cabrera obtained a contract for Great Kills Park on Staten Island. The park was built on a landfill and harbor dredge spoils, and in 2008 the U.S. Park Service discovered radioactive medical sources buried there. Cabrera said it will perform a site survey then remove any contamination deemed hazardous to the public.

In California, Cabrera’s Sacramento group secured a significant increase to its ongoing radiation protection support at the Army’s Schofield Barracks. Cabrera has been providing radiological services at this depleted uranium contaminated site for several years while the Army constructs modern firing ranges.

Finally, it received a contract to perform investigation activities at the Radioactive Waste Disposal Area at the W.R. Grace chemical plant at Curtis Bay, outside Baltimore, Md. The Cabrera team will perform gamma walkover surveys and provide training and radiation protection to drillers during this comprehensive site assessment.

Meantime, Cabrera said its McClellan Park remediation project in California is being considered by the Environmental Protection Agency for its EPA Sustainability Award.
