E. Hartford spending $2M for better lighting

The town of East Hartford has entered into a $2 million energy savings performance contract with a Massachusetts vendor for more energy efficient street and exterior lighting.

Ameresco of Framingham, Mass. is installing 5,000 new street lights using energy-saving LEDs, as well as new exterior lighting at the town Public Safety Complex, Community Cultural Center, Town Hall, Terry Pool Park, Town Green Alumni Park, a firehouse.

The $2 million contract includes $480,000 in federal and state energy efficiency incentives. The town expects to save $1.7 million in annual energy savings as a result of the upgrade.

The project is expected to be complete in spring.
