East Hartford Community Health Care has received a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to expand access to mental health and substance abuse services, DHHS announced.
Cornell Scott-Hill Health Corp. in New Haven received an identical grant. Combined, the $500,000 will help 520 state residents, the federal agency said.
The money, part $51.3 million in grants nationwide, comes from the Affordable Care Act, which expanded mental health and substance abuse benefits and protections.
The state has a dozen federally-designated community health centers serving more than 327,000 patients.
Earlier this year, Middletown’s Community Health Center Inc. received $250,000 from DHHS for similar purposes.
