East Hartford petroleum product distributor BWE, Inc. has agreed to pay $82,200 to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over claims it failed to file timely chemical inventory reports.
The case is based upon an EPA inspection in May 2012 at BWE’s facility in West Rutland, Vt. and subsequent investigations into the company’s other facilities.
The settlement is specifically for BWE’s plant in Manchester, N.H., where EPA alleged the company did not keep adequate inventory records of petroleum products and other flammable liquids such as methanol and diesel fuel.
The records of such inventories are used by fire crews and first responders to know how to plan for accidents and protect themselves against dangerous materials.
