East Granby vehicle testing provider Opus Inspection Inc. said it has signed a deal to acquire Envirotest Systems Holding Corp. for $84 million.
Opus, a subsidiary of Sweden’s Opus Group, said the deal will give it the largest vehicle inspection market share in North America.
Envirotest, which operates vehicle inspection programs in five states and British Columbia, will keep its name and management team.
The company had revenue of $86 million in 2012, Opus said.
Along with real estate and other assets, Opus will get control of Envirotest’s remote sensing technology, which can measure vehicle emissions from an instrument on the roadway using infrared and ultraviolet light.
The deal, which is subject to Envirotest winning an inspection contract in Colorado and Opus’ receipt of financing, is expected to close in early 2014.
