Dutch Point Credit Union Raises Funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dutch Point Credit Union continued its tradition of giving back to the community by raising funds to support the cause and participating in the Hartford area Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The credit union was able to raise $2,065 for the event, which includes the credit union’s contribution of $500. For nine weeks, staff wore pink shirts with jeans on Fridays for a $5 donation.

UIL Employee Giving Campaign Raises $250K to Benefit Nonprofits 

UIL Holdings Corp.’s employee giving campaign raised $250,419 with a company match of $115,000 to benefit nonprofit organizations in the company’s service territories. The campaign ran from Sept. 16 to Oct. 11.

During the campaign, almost 800 employees contributed directly to nonprofit organizations of their choice, including more than 350 eligible organizations that operate in communities within UIL service territories in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Those organizations include the American Red Cross, the Connecticut Food Bank, the Wounded Warrior Project and Homes for the Brave. 

The Mildred L. Cannon Trust Awards Grant to VNHSC

The Mildred L. Cannon Trust has awarded a grant of $6,500 to Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut Inc. to support their work to alleviate the pain and suffering of patients who are diagnosed with cancer and/or heart disease. Benefits of VNHSC’s Hospice and Palliative Care program include offering an alternative to hospital or nursing care, and seeking to enhance the life of the patient and his/her family.

Meanwhile, The Office Depot Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to VNHSC to provide support for their Meals on Wheels program, which delivers food to vulnerable, low income and at risk populations living in the local towns that the program serves.

$200K Grant Awarded to Leadership Greater Hartford’s Leaders On Board Program

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded $200,000 in additional funding to support Leadership Greater Hartford’s Leaders on Board program. This grant will fund the program through July 2016. Leaders On Board trains and connects participants with boards of directors seeking new members. The program attracts individuals who want to serve on a board, develop their leadership skills and serve the community. 

Hartford Foundation ‘Giving Circle’ Awards Grants to Support Arts in Education Projects

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded grants totaling $43,500 in support of arts-based education programs in area schools. The HartBeat Ensemble of Hartford has been awarded $7,500 to support the implementation of its Arts-Based Curriculum Integration Program in two or three additional Hartford public elementary schools. The Judy Dworin Performance Project will receive $16,000 to expand its Moving Matters! residency program to all grades at the Parkville Community School in Hartford.

The Artists Collective of Hartford will receive $20,000 to collaborate with the Museum Academy Magnet School in Bloomfield, to launch an Arts Integration and Meaningful Learning Project in social studies and science.
