Two companies and an estate must provide partial reimbursement for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s cleanup of the Durham Meadows Superfund site.
Merriam Manufacturing Co., Aztec Industries LLC, and the estate of Allan Adams must use payments from their insurance claims and the proceeds of their real estate sales to provide EPA will the repayment of its costs incurred in the cleanup.
The exact costs and reimbursements have not been determined.
The Durham Meadows Superfund site includes the former location of the Merriam Manufacturing Co. and the current site of the Durham Manufacturing Co. During the history of the site along Main Street, both companies used solvents in the manufacture of metal cabinets and boxes that contaminated the soil and the groundwater.
EPA performed cleanup work at the site and removed all contaminated soil in May.
