Duracell powered Times Square drop, again

Bethel battery company Duracell harnessed the power of the pedal for the third consecutive year to light the 2011 numbers for the first 30 minutes of New York City’s Times Square New Year’s celebration.

Duracell, a company under Ohio-based Proctor & Gamble, set up its Smart Power Lab on Nov. 30 in Times Square, where thousands of consumers and celebrity pedalers generated energy through special stationary bikes.

“The next phase of our journey will take the Mobile Smart Power Lab to cities across the country that are affected by natural disasters, to provide them with power and tools they need to reconnect with loved ones and start the recovery process,” said Bob Jacobs, Duracell marketing director, in a statement.
