DuPont said Wednesday it expects its polymers unit to increase sales more than 12 percent in 2010 while raising pretax margins.
Polymers are widely used in everything from tires to plastics.
Diane H. Gulyas, president of DuPont Performance Polymers, said her division will boost sales through productivity initiatives and growth in emerging markets. Gulyas said emerging markets accounted for almost 30 percent of sales in 2009.
She said the business unit has been growing through new products such as “Hytrel” thermoplastic elastomers, which have been used for railway infrastructure in India and China. Gulyas delivered the remarks at a teleconference for investors Wednesday.
Shares of DuPont rose 33 cents to $34.01 in midday trading. (AP)
