Mission: Duncaster is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian, charitable organization whose mission is to provide a quality lifestyle for older adults through a wide range of social, cultural and recreational activities. As Greater Hartford’s first continuing care retirement community, Duncaster was created by people who believed that’s one’s older years can be greatly enhanced by the security of independent living combined with the assurance of quality healthcare services, wellness programs and compassionate support.
Background: Duncaster was founded in 1984. The 89-acre campus includes 190 independent residences, 14 social assisted living apartments, 12 dementia assisted living apartments, a 60-bed, all-private room skilled nursing facility (Caleb Hitchcock Health Center) including subacute/rehabilitative services. The Duncaster community also includes a wholistic wellness program, an aquatic and fitness center and an on-site health clinic staffed by physicians and nurse practitioners. Residents can participate in variety of ongoing education, social and cultural programs. The housing and lifestyle options combined with the continuum of services are designed to help residents live life to the fullest by providing comfort, security and fulfillment. In addition to serving as one of Bloomfield’s major employers, employing 283 full and part-time staff, Duncaster has committed to being a socially accountable member of the community and to making it a better place to live.Â
Major Fundraiser: The annual Duncaster Golf Tournament raises funds for the Duncaster Community Fund, which provides programs and services to Duncaster residents. The Duncaster Community Outreach Fund supports local social service organizations and community projects.
Volunteer Needs: Duncaster welcomes volunteers to help with providing companionship and participating in activities in The Caleb Hitchcock Health Center, working in the gift shop as well as help with filing and office work. Contact Fran Kent at (860) 380-5006.
