DRS publishes list of 50 top business tax scofflaws

The state Department of Revenue Services is out with its quarterly report of top 50 business tax delinquents in Connecticut. Collectively they owe the state $10.9 million.

All but three of the businesses are delinquent in remitting sales and use taxes to the state. The remainder are delinquent on paying withholding taxes to Connecticut.

The top 10 business tax scofflaws, according to the state, are:

  1. Monaco’s Wine and Liquor, Bridgeport: $570,760.02
  2. Chucky’s Food Store, North Stonington: $539,543.55
  3. Wooster Street Market, Shelton: $471,404.78
  4. Polo Catering, West Hartford: $450,021.28
  5. Seetaram LLC, Putnam: $354,576.59
  6. Verrex Corp., Mountainside, NJ: $346,870.10
  7. Kabbani Majed, Bridgeport: $342,904.50
  8. RJB Retail, Bloomfield: $329,758.79
  9. Yard Group Landscaping, Waterford: $319,465.60
  10. Kobyluck Ready Mix, Waterford: $305,375.21

One item of note is the top 25 business scofflaws on the list don’t owe as much as one individual. According to the Department of Revenue Services’ top 50 delinquent income taxpayer accounts, John V. Holten of Riverside has an outstanding individual income tax bill of $7.1 million. That is almost five times more than the next individual on the list.
