The Credit Union League of Connecticut (CULCT) has hired a former state financial regulator and current deputy commissioner of the state Department of Revenue Services (DRS) as its leader.

The board of directors of the Meriden-based nonprofit trade organization announced Bruce Adams will begin serving as its chief executive and president on Aug. 19. Adams will takeover for Jill Nowacki, who stepped down as CEO in May after leading the organization for over five years.
Adams is headed to CULCT after beginning as DRS’ deputy commissioner in January.
A former partner of Hartford law firm Day Pitney LLP who also held several positions at the UConn Foundation, Adams started his career in state government as deputy legal counsel for former Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in 2012 before being named general counsel of the state Department of Banking in 2014. He served as the department’s acting commissioner for several months in 2015.
From March 2016 to January, Adams served as general counsel to the office of former Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.
The West Hartford resident earned a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Vermont and later graduated from the UConn School of Law.
League board chairman Michael Hinchey in a statement said Adams offers an “impressive blend of legal, policy, and business experience, which will be extremely valuable to furthering the credit union movement in Connecticut.”
