The Department of Revenue Services said its vendor has installed credit card readers at the agency’s four walk-in offices across the state.
As a result, residents will be able to make credit card payments in person. Until now, residents wanting to pay by credit card had to call the state’s vendor, Official Payments Corp., or visit its website. Both options charged a 2.35 percent fee.
Official Payments installed the readers in Hartford, Waterbury, Bridgeport and Norwich, and the fee will still apply DRS said.
DRS said it has also started accepting credit card information over the phone.
The agency began accepting credit card payments in February. Since then, it said it has collected $400,000 in overdue taxes.
