It’s not surprising Maura A. Droney, 26, has pursued a career in law, nor would it be shocking if she were to one day be elected to political office. She was recently hired as an associate for Halloran & Sage in its labor and employment practice group.
Droney is the daughter of John Droney, name partner in Farmington’s Levy & Droney, as well as a former chairman of the Connecticut Democrat Party. Her mother was an attorney before becoming a psychologist. Her uncle is Christopher F. Droney, a U.S. district judge in Hartford and former mayor of West Hartford. Her sister is also an attorney and practices at Robinson & Cole.
“It’s a good thing,” said Droney, who referred to the number of attorneys in her family. “It’s a great network when I have a question about the law. I have a whole bunch of numbers I can call.I have lots of attorneys in the family.”
One thing Droney does not envision is working with her father in the family business. “I don’t think he would let me. I never considered it. I think it’s the healthy choice knowing how similar our personalities are,” she said.
Droney focuses her practice on employment and labor disputes and general litigation including premises liability. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross and her JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Connecticut and the District of Connecticut federal courts.
Labor and employment law was not an area Droney considered until joining Halloran & Sage. She has enjoyed how it exposes her to a spectrum of the law.
“Unfortunately, it’s really busy because of the recession,” said Droney, who represents employers in disputes. “I’m really happy here at Halloran & Sage. I would like to stay here and get to know more in this area of the law. At this point, I’m really content where I am.”
In her limited free time as a young associate, Droney finds time to work on political campaigns. She also has a somewhat unique father-daughter bonding experience. She goes target shooting with her dad. “He doesn’t golf,” she said.
