Downes Construction names new president

New Britain’s Downes Construction Co. has promoted Executive Vice President Tom Romagnoli to president.

David Patrick remains as CEO and chairman of the board. He previously also combined the president role.

Downes is an employee-owned construction management firm that also has offices in Rhode Island and a presence in Massachusetts.

Founded in 1934, the firm works in construction in the education, municipal, health care and community sectors.

Romagnoli has been with the company for some 30 years. In his new role he will oversee day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.

Downes was recently recognized with three 2026 Build Connecticut Awards from the Associated General Contractors of Connecticut, honoring a recreation center in New London, Bloomfield’s Prosser Library and a new nursing center at Goodwin College.
