The state Department of Transportation (DOT) has launched a new mobile app to pair with its newly minted fare card for commuters riding the state’s bus systems.
DOT on Thursday said the GO CT Card Mobile app, available in Apple and Google Play app stores, allows commuters to pay their CTtransit or CTfastrak bus fare or check their account balance and transaction history.

The app, free to download, also gives users discounts on rides by providing them with the lowest fare possible fare through one of the nation’s first “fare-capping” systems. It also allows riders to add funds, setup or manage their autopay options, and make changes to their account.
Once a $2 GO CT Card is registered online, riders can open the app and scan the barcode when boarding, said DOT Commissioner Joseph Giulietti.
The GO CT Card and accompanying mobile app were first announced last October as part of a larger effort by DOT to increase ridership through new perks and technology.
Approximately 300 CVS Pharmacies, 7-Eleven and Walgreens retailers sell the cards, in addition to the CTtransit customer service centers in Hartford, New Haven and Stamford, the North East Transportation Center in Waterbury and the Meriden Transit District offices.
