South Windsor clean energy manufacturer Doosan Fuel Cell on Tuesday announced six of its fuel cells have been turned on at the Korean South East Power Co. facility in a suburb of the country’s capital city of Seoul.
Doosan, whose parent company is headquartered in South Korea, has six projects in South Korea totaling 35 fuel cell systems. Before Doosan purchased the South Windsor manufacturer last year, seven other fuel cells were installed at another KOSEP plant near Seoul.
The six new 400-kilowatt PureCell fuel cells turned on Tuesday provide 2.6 megawatts of clean energy and heat to the local electric grid in South Korea.
South Korea is the world’s leader in fuel cell installations, as the country’s renewable energy policy favors the electrochemical process that generates electricity with no emissions. The Asian nation is home to the world’s largest fuel cell system, although on Tuesday a Connecticut developer pitched an even larger system for Beacon Falls.
