Doosan installs California fuel cell

South Windsor manufacturer Doosan Fuel Cell on Tuesday announced it has installed a 400-kilowatt unit at Narco College in California.

Norco College, which is part of the Riverside Community College District, will receive about 50 percent of its daily electricity needs from the fuel cell on the 141-acre campus.

Since the power system operates with zero water consumption, Doosan estimates the fuel cell will save 1.4 million gallons of water annually in the drought-stricken state.

In total, Doosan has more than 10 megawatts of installed fuel cells in California, which is enough to power 7,500 households. The company is a subsidiary of South Korea conglomerate Doosan, which bought the South Windsor company last year.
