Energy provider Dominion said it has begun commercial operation of its solar farm in Somers and its fuel cell facility in Bridgeport.
Dominion, which also owns the 2,100-megawatt Millstone Power Station, developed the 14.9-megawatt fuel cell facility itself. It purchased the five-megawatt solar farm from Kyocera in October.
The company will sell the renewable energy to Connecticut Light & Power under a power purchase agreement.
Danbury’s Fuel Cell Energy performed the work on the Bridgeport facility, which contains five fuel cell power plants and an organic rankine cycle turbine for added output and efficiency gains.
Its output is enough to power approximately 15,000 U.S. homes, according to Fuel Cell.
