Dominion acquires Somers solar project

Dominion, which owns Connecticut’s only nuclear power station, said it has purchased a 5-megawatt solar project in Somers from Kyocera.

The sale occurred Tuesday. Dominion didn’t disclose the price.

The electricity generated by the solar panels will be sold to Connecticut Light & Power Co. under a 20-year purchased-power agreement.

“The Somers project joins a growing list of renewable projects that Dominion has announced or brought online this year as we maintain our focus on providing a mix of affordable, clean and reliable power,” David Christian, Dominion’s CEO, said in a statement.

The solar array will begin commercial operation before year’s end. It sits on a 90-acre plot four miles south of the Massachusetts border. It was jointly developed by Kyocera and CleanPath.

A 14.9-megawatt fuel cell facility in Bridgeport developed and owned by Dominion will also go live in the coming months.
