A Fairfield man hauled to court when he claimed security lapses after finding bank documents in trash bins has ended the dispute by signing an agreement.
For months, James Hastings searched through trash bins outside People’s United Bank branches in Fairfield County. He pulled out bags of paperwork with private information, including customers’ Social Security numbers and account information.
Hastings’ lawyer says the agreement is a temporary injunction that prohibits the public disclosure of any customer information that remains in his possession.
Bank officials had claimed Hastings attempted to extort a security job from the bank in exchange for not making the documents public.
State Police investigated Hastings, but he has not been charged with a crime.
