Discount Power expands to 2nd state, Ohio

Shelton electric supplier Discount Power will expand to Ohio on July 1, its second state after Connecticut.

The initial launched in conjunction with Duke Energy will go to 14 of Ohio’s 88 counties, mostly in the southwest portion of the state.

Discount Power, like all other electric suppliers, operates in deregulated states where ratepayers can buy the generation portion of their power bill from a company other than their electric utility.

Connecticut adopted deregulation in 1998, and Ohio adopted it in 1999. To date, 47 percent of Connecticut ratepayers have made the switch compared to 43 percent of Ohio ratepayers.
