Houston electric supplier Direct Energy has purchased Astrum Solar, with its operations in Connecticut, for $54 million.
Astrum, headquartered in Maryland, has sold and installed 4,000 residential solar arrays in Connecticut, Maryland, California, Massachusetts, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Its Connecticut operations are based in Middletown.
Direct purchased Astrum to move into the solar market and offer additional products to its 6 million customers. Direct believes the solar component complements its product offerings as its customer base already is looking for non-traditional ways to energize their homes.
