Norwich-based Dime Bank has filed an application with the Connecticut Department of Banking and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. for approval to open its first community bank in Vernon.
Dime Bank – which currently has 13 Connecticut locations in southeastern Connecticut and the greater Hartford area and one branch in Westerly, Rhode Island – made the announcement Monday morning.
“For over 150 years, we’ve provided inspired community banking to individuals, families and business owners in Connecticut and Rhode Island and we look forward to the opportunity to do the same in the Vernon and Rockville area,” Dime President and CEO Nick Caplanson said in a statement. “It’s clear that not everyone wishes to do their banking with larger, out-of-state financial institutions and we’re happy to welcome customers who remember how banking used to be and still prefer the services, familiarity and community-based commitment of a local bank.”
The new branch – pending approval – would open in the fall of 2022 and be located at 135 Talcottville Road in Vernon.
Dime Bank is a mutual bank with more than $1 billion in assets. It has been gradually increasing its Greater Hartford presence in recent years with new branches in Glastonbury and Manchester.
