Digging up dirt on contaminated site

Cleanup efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency and the state’s Department of Environmental Protection begin today at CadleRock Properties in Willington and Ashford, after lead and arsenic were found at elevated levels. The Sallow Road site, a 335-acre undeveloped parcel that abuts 12 other properties, will undergo various changes during the project including the construction of a temporary access road, excavation and removal of contaminated soil and restoration of the site. The process is expected to take one year.
