Sacred Heart University has become the first institution of higher education to offer a joint certificate program in digital marketing. The new program will be an option for students pursuing a master’s degree in digital marketing at the Fairfield school’s Jack Welch College of Business.
Sacred Heart developed the certificate program jointly with SAS, a North Carolina company that specializes in analytics, business intelligence and data management. Expertise in analytics is in high demand in this age of “big data.” The SAS Joint Certificate Program in Digital Marketing is designed to appeal to students who desire a more analytical marketing orientation than is currently available elsewhere.
SAS has partnered with multiple institutions that offer the SAS Joint Certificate Program — in data science, data analytics and other areas as part of its global academic program. However, the new partnership with Sacred Heart marks the first time the SAS Joint Certificate Program will be offered in digital marketing.
The program will encourage students to work with real marketing problems and data, according to SHU. To earn the certificate, students will complete courses in big data marketing, consumer-decision analysis and applied topics. Students will also complete a capstone project employing SAS products and real data.
“In our master’s program we’re combining advanced topics such as artificial intelligence marketing and big data marketing with cutting-edge tools, such as the ones offered by SAS,” said Jose Mendoza, SHU’s director for the master of science in digital marketing program. “The SAS Joint Certificate in Digital Marketing reinforces the quality and relevance of our master’s program in digital marketing.”
Digital marketing remains an essential skill-set for those pursuing professional careers in marketing. Marketing managers earn higher-than-average pay, with a median annual salary of $129,380, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook. Analytics can clarify and amplify digital marketing efforts, helping marketers properly interpret consumer behavior and other data.
