A Danbury-based developer has proposed constructing a 4,400-square-foot retail building in Newtown, according to plans filed with the town’s Land Use Agency.
Nejame Development plans to build the structure on a rectangular 1.21-acre parcel at 149 Mount Pleasant Road. The property is undeveloped and wooded, the application stated.
Calls to the company were not immediately returned.
The proposed development would have 22 parking spaces, walkways, landscaped areas and a curb cut to allow access to and from Mount Pleasant Road. It would feature a stormwater management system that would return runoff water to the soil through a subsurface infiltration system.
The parcel is owned by Walter Kilcourse, of New Milford. He has owned it since 1987, according to property records. It was appraised at $95,140 and assessed at $66,600 in 2022. Nejame is under contract to buy the property, according to Kilcourse.
The town’s Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the proposal and approved it unanimuosly on May 7.
