Developer eyes senior or affordable housing for Shelton property

Easton developer Stephen Shapiro is proposing two different options to permit either 10 senior housing apartments, or 40 affordable housing apartments on a 2.1-acre site in Shelton, at 118 Armstrong Road.

The Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday night will discuss and possibly decide on proposed changes to the city’s zoning regulations that would allow for an age-restricted residential development on the site, which is currently home to a single-family house that was renovated into a three-bedroom apartment.

Meanwhile, Shapiro on Tuesday also submitted plans for the 40-unit affordable housing development on the same site. The 40 units, which would each contain about 1,400 square feet, would be built in five, three-story buildings.

Shapiro said he hopes the senior housing project is approved by the city.

“If it’s not, this other plan is there to provide affordable housing,” he said.

Shapiro previously proposed a 40-unit townhouse condominium development for the site, but he withdrew those plans  in the face of local opposition.
