Developer eyes fourth Fairfield County multifamily project with focus on aesthetics

A Westport developer is looking to build his fourth multifamily project in Fairfield County, with a focus on appearance and quality.

Joseph Feinleib, who founded Coastal Luxury Homes in 2004, plans to propose building a high-end apartment building in Westport at the former home of the Connecticut Humane Society, at 455 Post Road E. He said he expects to put a plan before the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission in about four months.

Feinleib, in July, purchased the 7,195-square-foot building and 1 acre property for $3.5 million.

“Its location is so convenient,” he said, noting it’s located near many amenities in town, incuding a shopping center and Trader Joe’s grocery store.

Feinleib said Coastal Luxury Homes aims to erect an aesthetically pleasing building that fits well into the town’s design vernacular and uses high-quality construction materials and methods. His firm, which employs about 60 people, handles all aspects of construction.

“It’s going to be a very high-end development,” he told the Hartford Business Journal.

Coastal Luxury Homes’ other multifamily housing projects include The Mill Westport, a 31-unit apartment building, at 41 Richmondville Ave., in Westport; and SoNo Central, a 150-unit building, at 10 Monroe St., in Norwalk, which was done in partnership with Spinnaker Real Estate Partners. Both were completed in 2024.

It has also built Coastal Point West, a 12-unit apartment complex in Westport, at 4 Morningside Drive, which was built in 2017.

Feinleib said Coastal Luxury Homes’ long-term goal is to build a multifamily housing project about every two years in Fairfield County, mainly in transit-oriented areas.

The company’s main focus, however, is high-end single-family housing, having built about 150 homes in the area and Sarasota, Florida.

“I’m very focused on great locations,” he said.
