Developers broke ground Monday on the redevelopment of the Parkside Village public housing complex, at 115 S. Montowese St. in Branford.
Upon completion in December 2023, the rebuilt complex will have 67 new units, with 60 units set aside for households earning at or below 60% of the area median income. The current complex, built in 1974, has 50 units restricted to seniors and those with disabilities.
Developer Beacon Communities plans to demolish existing structures at the complex and build a new building with larger units, accessibility measures, parking and other amenities.
Current Parkside Village residents will be able to move back into the redeveloped complex on its completion.

Beacon Communities CEO Dara Kovel said, “After a long road, we at Beacon cannot wait to bring state-of-the-art affordable housing to the people of Branford.”
Partners in the project include the Housing Authority of Branford, Elm City Communities (The Housing Authority of New Haven), the Connecticut Department of Housing, the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, Citizens Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, the Town of Branford, RBC Community Investments, Boston Capital Finance and Bank of New York Mellon.
