A Darien-based developer has acquired a former Connecticut Humane Society property in Westport that has zoning approval for a 30-unit residential development.
V20 Group said it acquired the 1.77-acre site at 455 Post Road East, where plans call for 25 rental apartments and five townhomes. The latest purchase price was not disclosed.
The development will include nine one-bedroom, eight two-bedroom and 13 three-bedroom residences. Plans also call for underground and surface parking, a landscaped courtyard, gym, common room, golf simulator and outdoor grilling and patio area.
Westport’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the project in June. The property, which previously straddled residential and commercial zones, will be developed under the town’s Inclusionary Housing Zone.
The site was purchased for $3.5 million in July 2025 by Joseph Feinleib, founder of Westport-based luxury home builder Coastal Luxury Homes. Feinleib said at the time that he planned to develop 25 to 30 high-end rental units.
The Humane Society had owned the property since 1944 before relocating to Wilton in 2025. The site contains a 7,195-square-foot former headquarters and a 1,096-square-foot outbuilding, both built in 1952. The buildings will be demolished to make way for the development.
V20 Group, led by President Joe Vaccaro, said construction is expected to begin immediately and take 16 to 18 months. Leasing inquiries will begin in early 2027.
The firm's portfolio includes industrial, office, retail and mixed-use properties. Its developments include Heights Crossing in Darien, which contains 65 rental apartments and nearly 29,000 square feet of commercial space.
