Denny’s opens in Hfd.’s Charter Oak strip

Hartford’s first Denny’s diner has opened in the Charter Oak neighborhood Monday, serving up jobs for 90.

The 4,200-square-foot eatery is at 539 Flatbush Ave., next door to Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, in the Charter Oak Marketplace. The restaurant will open with 7 a.m. breakfast service.

The round-the-clock restaurant’s development pricetag is close to $1 million, said Mel Pelletier, operations manager for owner/operator Daniel Chu.

Chu has six other Connecticut Denny’s: Enfield, New Haven, Southington, Vernon, Westbrook and Wethersfield; plus five more in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

With Hartford, there are 10 Denny’s throughout Connecticut.

Enfield’s LongHorn Steak

LongHorn Steakhouse has opened its fifth Connecticut restaurant in Enfield, adding between 80 and 100 new jobs.

The 6,270-square-foot restaurant is at 10 Phoenix Ave., next to door to the Hampton Inn. Bob Siana is the 240-seat eatery’s managing partner.

Based in Florida, the LongHorn chain has 480 restaurants, four of which also are in Manchester, North Haven, Shelton and Waterford.

Glastonbury bldg. full

The New England Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychiatry is taking up the last available space at Glastonbury’s 110 National Drive.

With the center occupying about 4,600 square feet, the building is now fully leased.

 JA’s new Hfd. digs

Junior Achievement of Southwest New England has relocated its Hartford headquarters from downtown to midtown space owned by Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.

The Hartford Center for Business & Financial Education is a freshly remodeled structure at 70 Farmington Ave., next door to a Bank of America branch. Both are in the shadow of The Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood headquarters complex.

JA will use the space to host programming for local K-12 students, including JA Entrepreneurial Academy and the JA Be Entrepreneurial Symposium.

The center is part of The Hartford’s five-year, $7 million investment in the Asylum Hill neighborhood.

Gineva Murano’s downtown debut

Popular shoreline retailer Gineva Murano Glass Jewelry has opened a downtown Hartford shop in CityPlace, 185 Asylum St.

The 320-square-foot boutique on the skyscraper’s concourse level sells custom-made jewelry crafted from imported hand-blown glass and sterling silver made by wife-and-husband entrepreneurs Christina and Christoper Kurtin of East Haddam.

Their first shop opened in April 2012 in Olde Mistick Village.
