Democratic primary called a tossup; GOP a blowout

A new survey in Connecticut says the race between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton is basically a tossup in the Democratic presidential primary. Donald Trump blows away his competition.

The Public Policy Polling poll, conducted on behalf of VoteVets.Org Action Fund, finds Clinton leading 48 percent to 46 percent. Trump leads his Republican opponents John Kasich and Ted Cruz 59 percent to 25 percent to 13 percent respectively.

Clinton finds herself benefitting from strong appeal among African American voters. According to the poll, she leads Sanders 63 percent to 24 percent among those voters.

Trump has the highest favorability rating of the GOP candidates in Connecticut, and also handily wins head-to-head matchups with Cruz and Kasich. One thing that comes across in Connecticut, according to the poll, is how unpopular Cruz is. He’s way under water even with Republican primary voters.
