Dells buys Wallingford health-data archiver

Dell Inc. said it will acquire InSite One Inc., a Wallingford company that develops cloud computing technology to simplify the storage of medical records and medical images, The Austin-American (Texas) Statesman reports.

No terms were disclosed for the acquisition of InSite One, which currently manages nearly 55 million clinical studies, more than 3.6 billion medical images and supports almost 800 clinical sites, the paper said Wednesday in its online edition.

The private company has about 50 employees.

Dell said the acquisition fits with its plans to aggressively develop new information products and services for the health care market worldwide.

Most of InSite’s customers are located in the U.S., “but we believe we can expand their reach dramatically with our global scale,” said Dell spokesman David Frink.

In November, InSite One signed a deal for an unspecified sum with South African digital diagnostic imaging firm Xeikona Medical Solutions to set up a network for archiving health histories on that country’s miners.
