Connecticut Rep. Rosa DeLauro has received the American Medical Association’s highest government service award for her work over the years to improve the health of Connecticut patients.
DeLauro was nominated for the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service by the Connecticut State Medical Society.
“This award recognizes Representative DeLauro’s long career of dedication to improving the lives and well-being of patients and physicians in Connecticut and across the nation,” said AMA Board Chair Ardis Dee Hoven. “She has worked to pass numerous pieces of important legislation to benefit patients, especially those with cancer, in our nation and she continues to be a strong advocate for increased food safety and nutritional labeling.”
Connecticut State Medical Society officials say they nominated DeLauro, who is a cancer survivor, for the award because she has authored and sponsored many pieces of legislation on behalf of other women with cancer.
In addition, she has shown support for reforming the Medicare payment formula for physicians.
