DEEP: Unhealthy air on CT’s coast

An unhealthy air quality warning has been issued for Connecticut’s southern coast, while the rest of the state will have air that’s deemed unhealthy for the elderly, those with asthma and children, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said Monday.

The conditions are expected to persist through at least Tuesday, DEEP said.

When the federal government’s AirNow air quality index deems air conditions to be unhealthy, everyone may begin to experience health effects, such as breathing discomfort.

DEEP is advising active children, adults and people with respiratory diseases to limit prolonged outdoor exertion today through Wednesday. The agency says peak ozone levels are predicted to occur each day between noon and 8 p.m.
