The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection swore in three new environmental officers on Tuesday morning in Hartford, filling vacancies in the state’s oldest police force.
John Torres, 33, from Hamden; Christian Hage, 22, from Southington; and Matthew Heath, 29, from Plymouth; were administered their oaths of office into the DEEP Environmental Conservation Police, which was founded in 1895.
EnCon officers perform a wide range of duties including hunting, fishing, and boating law enforcement; search and rescue; and Marine patrols on Long Island Sound. They also serve as special agents for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The new trio will start their 22-week Police Academy training on Friday in Meriden.
