The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection announced it has picked an Indiana artist’s painting of three Atlantic brant as the winner of its duck stamp contest.
DEEP holds the contest every year to pick the image that will adorn the $13 duck stamp that hunters can purchase in order to hunt down the waterfowl. Since it started in the 1990s, the program has generated $1.4 million, which is used for wetland conservation projects.
The winner of this year’s contest was Jeffrey Klinefelter of Etna Green, Ind. He had entered his painting in the contest every year, coming in third place last year. Two Connecticut artists were among the 11 who submitted paintings for the contest, although neither finished in the top three.
