The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said it has launched a new grant program that will pay homeowners and businesses as much as $7,000 to remove and replace their outdoor wood burning furnaces.
“Good Deals for Good Neighbors” will pay up to $4,000 for removals costs and up to an additional $3,000 for installing cleaner, more efficient units.
The grant funds come from Connecticut’s $345,000 portion of a 2007 pollution settlement between coal plant operator American Electric Power Service Corp. and seven other states.
DEEP will accept applications through Oct. 31.
